Observations | En la parte posterior del cuadro se leen las siguientes inscripciones:Returned to the People of México by C. L. Alexander Jerome, October 81. / Feather picture in inlaid wooden frame from México / The picture made of humming birdsrsquo; feathers, is very important and valuable. This art of making decorative objects ofnbsp; feather was one of the most celebrated arts in preconquest México. The tradition was taken over by the Conquerors and the feather work supplied to priest robes and pictures of saints. This feather picture is one of the very few examples of this art in existence. It was made around 1550, probably in the Town of Patrcuoro in Mistoocan where this art was preserved longest The amount of time and patience spent on thes pictures made the art obsolete around 1900, and it is now quite impossible to have thes pictures made. |
